Café Grosz is located in the Cumberland-House designed and built 1911/1912 by the Architect Robert Leibnitz and is named in honor of Ernst August, the 3. Count of Cumberland. Planned as a boarding house the developers went bankrupt before it’s opening so it was redesigned as a Grand Hotel. After world war 1 various ministries used this glamorous building until 2003. Since then it stood empty and was used a couple of times as a opulent movie location for Hollywood productions.
2010 it finally got reconstructed after it’s original blueprints and named after the Berlin based german-american artist George Grosz who is famous for his paintings from the 1920’s that express critical attitude against society.
