Take a train to mountain magic … Even if you are not a skiing enthusiast, Kleine Scheidegg has all it takes for a perfect day in the snow. Arriving at the train station you will be overwhelmed by the gigantic mountain scenery.
The infamous Eiger Nordwand impressive in it’s sheer size and rawness full with stories of alpine drama. If you are lucky you can watch through binoculars climbers risking their life while sitting in a comfy chair sipping on a cool glas of wine or enjoying the swiss favorite “Käsefondue”.
If that is not enough you can even take a train riding through the Eiger to the “Top of Europe”. The highest railway station in Europe is located 3.454 m above sea level. Visitors gain access to a high-alpine wonderland of ice, snow and rock, which they can admire from the viewing platforms on the Aletsch Glacier or in the Ice Palace. A true engineering marvel.
There are lots of restaurant’s to choose from and if you are in for a unforgettable experience and money ain’t a problem stay and dine in the “Bellevue Des Alpes”. This is one of the last existing Grand Hotels of the 19th. century and all this splendor at a height of 2.061m above sea level. It doesn’t get more mundane. They have 100 rooms mostly with historic interior, as if the roaring 20’s are still around the corner. The Bellevue was awarded historic hotel of the year in 2011.
